R.N. Jayaprakash - CHENNAI: Agni’s Centre for Research and Development, a unit of Agni College of Technology, Thalambur, joined hands with Tiny Sector Industries Association (TISIA), and organised an ‘Industrial R&D Collaboration Meet’ at Adhiparashakthi Kalyana Mandapam, here recently.
The meeting was conducted with a view to initiating interaction between industries and  students of Agni College of Technology, in the areas of research, consultancy and development related activities. Members from various industry associations such as TISIA (Tiny Sector Industry Association) and PIEMA (Perungudi Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association), faculty and students from Agni College of Technology participated in the meet.

E Shanmugham, vice-president, TISIA welcomed the gathering. S Jayaprakash, secretary, TISIA, delivered  the presidential address. In his speech, he stressed the importance of industry-institution collaboration for the benefit of the small scale industries.

S Viswanathan, president of PIEMA, and other office bearers of TISIA spoke on the occasion.
Dr S R R Senthil Kumar, principal, Agni College of Technology, delivered the  special address. In his speech,  he elaborated on the initiatives taken by R N Jayaprakash, managing trustee of Agni College of Technology, to promote R&D activities for the mutual benefit of  students and small scale industrialists. He highlighted the major R&D activities undertaken and  the  assistance provided  in the form of training to the industries.

 G Sasi Kumar, dean, Research and Development, spoke on the importance of R&D collaboration between industries and educational institutions and how to bridge the gap between them. He also requested  the industries to suggest technical problems faced by them so that students can carryout industry-relevant, ‘real- world’ problems for their projects.

S Vijay Ananth made a detail presentation on the R&D activities being  carried out in  the college, student projects and  facilities available to help the industries. In the interactive session, a few industrialists spoke about the technical issues faced by them and requested assistance from Agni College of Technology. An MoU was signed  between Agni College of Technology and  Tiny Sector Industries Association (TISIA) to establish the framework for the collaboration between the member industries and Agni College of Technology. S Devasenapathi, joint secretary, TISIA proposed a vote of thanks.
